Scow 33 Powerboat Study Plans —
Due to queries from clients, I designed this powerboat version of the Scow 33. The boat has a surprisingly large interior volume for its length, and is “the most boat for the money.”
Many people don’t realize that scow hull forms are efficient, very stiff, and more seaworthy than believed. Construction implements “developable surfaces,” which means that all hull surfaces can be formed from flat panels — full sheets of plywood, aluminum or steel. This construction is simple, straightforward and economical. And scows are not slow. The hull shape moves through the water requiring more power than a sharpie, for example, but will achieve hullspeed easily, and may exceed it given adequate power.
