TYPE Trailerable Racer/Daysailer with weighted centerboard and rotating wing mast. This is a fun boat, especially useful for learning the construction techniques for larger racing boats, or for extreme wood/epoxy light-weight techniques used in both monohull and multihull construction. The boat is a little sister to our Conch 32. She will be fast and fun to sail, yet easy to set up and break down.
CONSTRUCTION African mahogany plywood is the only exotic material. The mast can use aircraft plywood (2mm) or Okoume. The hull is built over longitudinals over bulkheads. The deck and coachroof use closed-cell polystyrene foam “Blue-board,” available from local lumber yards. This material glues with most epoxies and creates incredibly strong, light structures at low cost using simple techniques. The centerboard is ballasted with lead shot and polyester resin. This is a backyard or garage boat that will give the builder excellent entry-level experience into composite construction techniques.
