Study Plans for the classic 35-foot New Haven Oystering Sharpie
The New Haven oystering sharpies were the first of the breed, evolved from native log canoes, and the two-masted 35’er was the queen of the fleet.
Long, narrow, with a shoal, flat bottom and a rounded stern, they had flared topsides, narrow side decks and very low freeboard. And they were fast!
My version presented here has a minimalist cabin, with a huge cockpit. Freestanding masts with jib-headed sails allow this beauty to self-steer downwind.
